On the Levada do Furado from Ribeiro Frio to Portela pass

After a worthwhile detour to the viewpoint Balcões, from where you have a wonderful view of the mountains of Madeira, we return to the Levada do Furado (trout levada). We walk through lush vegetation and dense 'Laurissilva' forest. Again and again we have beautiful views of deep gorges and valleys in the area.
At the end of the hike you will reach the Portela pass.

We walk along the Levada da Serra do Faial to Santo da Serra. The road is wide and there is always something to do for the children - to be Levadeiro, to have a boat float in the levada. Enigmatic tree giant roots invite you to climb. At the end it goes into the Parque Ribeira Primeira. Here everyone can catch their own trout. Together, the trout is eaten. But there is also the choice between trout and espetada (meat skewer on laurel).

Encumeada to Boca da Corrida

We start at Boca da Encumeada and walk on the old paved "royal" path, one of the main communication routes between the south and north sides, crossing a part of the central massif. The flora is abundant here and if we are lucky we can spot many of the native bird species there. From here we have another magnificent view of Curral das Freiras.

Rabaçal - 25 fountains - Risco waterfall

We hike up and along the Levada do Risco and Levada das 25 Fontes first to the Risco waterfall and further to the source of the springs. In a semi-circular, shady cauldron pour a larger and numerous smaller waterfalls, the so called the 25 fountains. We walk along the levada under tall Erika trees, various laurel trees, blueberry trees and the rare Mayflower trees. In 1999, the nature reserve around Rabaçal was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The easternmost part of the island of Madeira is a nature park with a fantastic panoramic view. Tuff and basalt shimmer in the sunlight and transform the bizarre rock formations. The reflections and lighting moods created by the sun's rays are a great photo opportunity. On the hike through the barren landscape we discover rare plants. The views of the rugged north coast are unforgettable. At the end we climb the elephant's head and have in clear weather a magnificent view of the Dessertas and the neighboring island of Porto Santo.

We walk in the Rabaçal area. This hike is not an ordinary hike. It is not overcrowded and shows everything that Madeira has to offer in terms of beauty. Cascades plunge into rock pools, unique lakes invite you to take a dip in the crystal-clear water. We walk along Levadas and then on narrow paths down to Lagoa do Vento. A diverse, rewarding hiking experience.

Levada do Rei – Ribeiro Bonito

We always walk along the Levada do Rei. Exotic as well as native plants accompany our way. The tunnels, the levada, the lush vegetation and their biodiversity are examples of the island's rich cultural and natural heritage.
We end up on the wildly romantic streambed of the Ribeiro Bonito, a wonderful spot in the midst of the exuberant nature, which invites you to linger and relax, We walk through dense Laurissilva forest, under ancient majestic stinkberry trees or Madeira mahogany.
The little Madeiran chicken or the Madeira chaffinch can be recognized by his twittering.
On the way back we visit the well-preserved water mill of São Jorge. For about 300 years, it has been milling the wheat, corn, barley and rye, cultivated on the terraced fields of São Jorge, driven by the waters of the Levada do Rei.

Caldeirão Verde

The tour into the "green cauldron" is one of our most spectacular levada walks on the island. We walk from Ilha in an hollow way steadily uphill to the Levada. In the course we pass several waterfalls, tunnels and grand viewpoints, until we finally reach the Caldeirão Verde, a basin with about 70 to 80 diameter and rock walls from 80 to 100 m in height, in which several waterfalls pour, it drips uninterruptedly on the walls - so they are covered in the green ferns and mosses.
On the way back we visit the "Casa de Colmo" in Santana.

On the Levada do Furado from Ribeiro Frio to the trout farm Parque Ribeira Primeira

Mondays and Tuesdays from Ribeiro Frio to Portela ↓ ca. 260 hm

After a worthwhile detour to the viewpoint Balcões, from where you have a wonderful view of the mountains of Madeira, we return to the Levada do Furado (trout levada). We walk through lush vegetation and dense 'Laurissilva' forest. Again and again we have beautiful views of deep gorges and valleys in the area.
At the end of the hike you will reach the Parque Ribeira Primeira. Optionally, everyone can catch their own trout here. Together, the trout can be eaten. But there is also the choice between trout and espetada (meat on laurel skewer). € 15 per person.
On Mondays and Tuesdays our hike ends in Portela, where we can taste the delicious Espetada.

from Pico Arieiro to Pico Ruivo

This alpine summit tour connects the three highest mountains. Rock formations tower into the sky like timeless statues. The view is breathtaking all along the route. Rare plants present an incredible variety of colors as they display their delicate flowers. From Pico Ruivo we have a magnificent panoramic view. On the way back we visit the typical Santana houses.
